Illustrating Alice

“and what is the use of a book,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversations?”

Since 1907, when the copyright for Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ expired, artists have used the original illustrations or invented their own to create new bookworks. There’s a nice post on BrainPickings with lots of examples, as well as another one here. A good example of why copyright should be shorter, not longer.
