What exactly is an artist's book and how has that definition evolved over the past 100 years? How does a book's visual form, material elaboration, and physical structure continue the writing and enrich the interpretation of its "text?" Responses to these questions have produced substantial and complex works using original texts, experimental materials and structural inventions. From the beauty of math, to the tricks of memory, the subjects shaping these books embody the intensity of their makers' involvement.
