Kate Blacker and Pauline Pierson: Because It Is There

Kate Blacker's grandfather took the first aerial photographs of Mt.  Everest in 1933 and this book is part of a series of works drawing on documentation from that expedition.  Its two concertina pages pull out from a plain box with a circular cutout, suggestive of a camera lens, and form peaks.  Beneath an opaque red sheet lies a blue and black image of Everest surrounded by clouds, majestic, disorienting, intriguing.
