Hedi Kyle’s Panel Book

I’ve been playing around with Hedi Kyle’s panel book construction recently. Valerie Carrigan made good use of it by exploiting both sides in her book Point of View, shown below. She says “This book, created in watercolor, can be viewed from both front and back, offering two distinct vantage points from the mountain top [Mount Greylock].” Instructions for making the book are here.

Pilcro and the Letterpress

From the title, you might think this is post about type. It’s not. It’s about the brand name of a clothing line, exclusive to the Anthropologie chain. (Pilcro is a variant spelling of pilcrow, the paragraph mark: ¶.) I can’t find out why they used that name, and it’s since been shortened from “pilcro and the letterpress” to just “pilcro.” They make a bit of an effort to follow the theme, with “hyphen shorts,” “stet jeans,” “serif leggings” and “superscript jeans.” (That’s the tag in their clothing, above. )
