In addition to a box of random metal type, I also got a box of random wood type as part of my Christmas presents. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with them… there’s an entire alphabet plus all the numbers from 0-9, but they mostly don’t match.

Hi – just discovered your wonderful, wonderful blog while surfing around researching the history of ampersands for my own blog http://julietdoyle.blogspot.com . I shall be spending many happy hours reading your archives. Good luck in all your ventures – I envy you enormously, stuck as I am at the boring Adobe end of the typesetting spectrum. I played around a lot with my dad’s old Adana as a kid, so the smell of ink is ingrained in my nostrils somewhere, and I dabbled in bookbinding many years ago, but gave it up too soon.
