The recent artists in residence at SFCB did a book inspired by 19th century ledgers and account books. The ruled lines in the book were mechanically drawn using a pen ruling machine at Golden Business Forms in West Burlington, Iowa, especially for the edition. The paper is really lovely, and looks like a good foil for collages or printing. (To the left is one of the ledger papers that Golden makes.) |
The artwork of Guy Chase will be very interesting to study. He has a series of
meticulous rendering of the negative green or yellow spaces between color lines
are masterful, meditative consideration of ledger paper. I would recommend
seeing his total website.

Sir:
I have a client who wants me to replicate a large register book dating from the early 1930’s. I need to supply the paper which would be pH neutral and of heavy stock. I shall need about 200 sheets which would measure about 23″ x 18″. I shall need the sheets ruled, 41 horizontal lines printed in blue ink with space for headings at the top and seven vertical lines in red.
Can you supply this paper?
I shall bind this book using a spring spine, cloth “returned” hinges, red calf skin with raised hubs on the spine.
Do you have alphabet tabs for the foredge?
Thank you for your attention.

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me authenticate what I hope to be a piece of a 1920’s or 30’s ledger.
The paper is yellowish. I’ll try and an image when the item arrives this week.
The printing at the top says Journal entries for the month…. in a simple font.
Did they use yellow paper for accounting books with straightforward fonts back then?
