As I wrote the other day, I’m in the middle of designing a book with a poem called persimmons. I’ve found orange thread, now it’s on to finding just the right shade of orange for the cover. I’m going to sew on the cover, so it needs to be sturdy. I’ve got Moriki (a Japanese kozo) in a good shade and lovely hand-feel, but it’s too flimsy. So I spent the other day experimenting with my new-to-me dry mount press. Here I am using a tacking iron to help laminate the Moriki to some cover stock before putting it in the press. Too bad I can’t post the smell of a hot dry mount press! Quite overpowered my studio!
Unfortunately, once I verified that dry mounting the Moriki onto cardstock would allow me to sew on it, I discovered that the people making Moriki have discontinued it! So back to the hunt for orange paper…
