Art of the Book 2007

I helped organize the juried show of student work that opens today at the San Francisco Center for the Book, Art of the Book 2007. It runs from May 25 – Jul 27. The picture is of Eyes by Ginger Burrell. Find out more about SFCB here

Home of the Sampler

my packages for the samplerThere’ve been many forum posts on Etsy about The Sampler, a promotional tool for indie businesses. They collect samples and promotional material from crafters and send them out to paid subscribers. Although it seems as if a lot of the subscribers are other crafters, I decided to put together a package for their June/July package. I’m the sort of person that needs deadlines or things don’t happen. I was in the planning stages of printing another set of type coasters and decided to print an extra 100 or so coasters. The plan is to send some to The Sampler and keep some to give away at other events or to repeat customers. Whether I send a contribution to the Sampler or not, I’ll have reviewed my promotional material and had a fun time making up a packaging design!

[I sent the Sampler 75 coasters — that’s the packaging on the left]

Small Press Month

March is “Small Press Month,” an annual celebration of the independent spirit of small publishers and a national effort to showcase the diverse and unique work being published today. Support independent publishing this month and buy a zine or poetry chapbook.

Check out Ker-boom!, a letterpress printed zine

Keepsake for SFCB I printed these keepsakes for San Francisco Center for the Book’s Valentine’s Day opening reception of the exhibition Bartkowiak’s Best, from a design by Maia de Raat, on SFCB’s newest aquisition — a 10×15 CP floor model platen press. (If you’re in San Fransisco, try to stop by to see the books, they are glorious.) [The exhibition is now online at here]

Sherlock Holmes Coasters

“With hardly a word spoken, but with a kindly eye, he waved me to an armchair, threw across his case of cigars, and indicated a spirit case and a gasogene in the corner.” And so Holmes invites Dr. Watson to sit down to hear the tale of “A Scandal in Bohemia.”

This is the design that I did for these coasters for my friend Cathy & Glen’s party.
